NOSS uses a primarily sensor-based approach rather than continuous live camera monitoring. No one is sitting in front of a screen watching a live feed. Support is provided through sensors, alerts, and simple twoway communication, with a Remote Support Professional responding when there is an alert or a request for assistance. Virtual communication can also be incorporated when it is appropriate for the person and clearly identified in their support plan.
We believe this approach strikes the right balance between safety, privacy, and independence.
Remote Supports are not designed to replace DSPs. They are designed to expand the ways support can be delivered. At NOSS, we work with providers to understand each person’s goals, needs, routines, and preferences, then design a support approach that may include both remote and in-person assistance. The right balance looks different for every person.
In our experience, support needs alone do not determine whether someone will succeed with Remote Supports. We have supported people with significant needs who have done exceptionally well, and we have seen situations that initially appeared to be ideal prove more challenging. Factors such as response times, thoughtful planning, team alignment, and trust often matter more than a person’s support level alone.
Our philosophy is that technology should adapt to the person, not the other way around. Installation is straightforward, and many devices work quietly in the background, becoming a seamless part of everyday life for the individual receiving support. The technology is also portable, allowing supports to move and evolve as a person’s needs, routines, and living situation change over time.
Successful implementation has much more to do with planning, communication, and trust than technical expertise. We guide providers, families, support teams, and the individuals receiving services through the process from beginning to end so everyone understands how the support model works and what to expect.
